Overview of Assistance in Fiscal Year 2010

In 2010, Christian Relief Services and its project, Americans Helping Americans® worked in partnership with volunteers to provide emergency assistance, school supplies for needy children, 1,740 new pairs of shoes, 1,050 new winter coats, 810 blankets, 1,460 toys, 750 hygiene kits, food, home repairs and housing to individuals in West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, the District of Columbia, Ohio, Tennessee and Georgia. Poverty in Appalachia persists, but there is hope and we are continually searching for new ways to improve the quality of life in this beautiful region, in 2010, with the assistance of local and national volunteers, we were able to disperse over 350,000 pounds of food throughout the United States.

Outreach Programs for Youth and Families
food deliveries In 2010, our concentrated efforts, through funding to Americans Helping Americans®, an affiliate of Christian Relief Services, assisted very low-income people with emergency assistance, home repair, school supplies, enrichment camps and services for youth, and life skills training in rural areas of Appalachia and urban programs. 22,874 individuals were assisted in West Virginia, Kentucky, and Arizona with 1,050 school supply kits sent to Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio.

Food and Relief Distribution

In 2010, we provided nine truckloads of to the Appalachian region of Kentucky. In total, over 354,549.72 pounds of food was distributed for the year. For the holidays, 6,080 turkeys were provided for holiday meals. In addition to the food, other items distributed included blankets, new coats, as well as small gift items for many families that are unable to provide gifts for their children. We also distributed new shoes, hygiene items, and school supplies and craft items. Additionally we awarded cash grants to the above programs, funding a food pantry construction project and youth enrichment program. 104,822 individuals in West Virginia, North Carolina, the District.

Service-Enriched Housing and Community Resource Centers

Through our Americans Helping Americans® affiliate that we fund, we provided community-based services to residents at Pine Ridge Apartments (301 units) in Phoenix, Arizona.
