Water Harvesting in Kenya - Water is Life

waterharvestWithout a stable supply of water, our partners the Lewa Children's Home in Eldoret, Kenya could not provide for the 500-600 people who depend on the complex every day. Water-harvesting provides great benefits and a unique stability to areas where rainfall is sporadic. This type of water management allows for water to be stored through extended periods of drought to be used for irrigation, as well as drinking water for animals and - after filtration- for people. Our Bread and Water for Africa® program worked with the Lewa Children's Home to combat the water shortage by supporting forward thinking projects like water harvesting.

Making a Difference on Indian Reservations: Backpack Food Programs
backpacksAs we approach the school year, children living on reservations face rumbling bellies that can interfere with their education. Children attending the Takini School on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation face 30 mile bus rides to and from school and 3-day weekends (the Takini School has a four-day school week) without enough provisions to last each meal, much less any snacks. These rural communities stretching on the miles of reservation in Ziebach County, Wyoming sadly boasts the highest child poverty rate in the United States.
