Christian Relief Services has long believed that as citizens of the wider world we have a duty to help others all across the globe, not just here in America. Christian Relief Services, for over 25 years, has worked to raise the standard of living in other countries, primarily in Africa. In partnership with our project, Bread and Water for Africa®, we have been promoting positive, long-term change by supporting grassroots initiatives for self-sufficiency, health and education since 1986. In 2010, we assisted the needy in seven African countries through locally supported initiatives and hospitals by providing medicines, medical supplies, clean water, education, vocational training, literacy and agricultural assistance. Christian Relief Services also provided earthquake relief efforts in Haiti.
Food and Relief Distributed
In 2010, we provided donations of medical supplies, medicines, personal care items, school supplies, textbooks, clothing, and new shoes to grassroots organizations, hospitals, clinics, schools and orphanages in Sierra Leone, Zambia and Haiti. 137,306 pounds (68 tons) of relief materials including medicines, medical supplies, personal care items, school supplies and new shoes were shipped and over 25,000 individuals in Africa and Haiti were served.
Grant Funding
We provided grants through our affiliate, Bread and Water for Africa®, to support grassroots initiatives for vocational training, education, clean water, orphan care, food self-sufficiency, health initiatives, agricultural development and income generation in Kenya, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Uganda. |
